Cos’è il Marmo?

Marble is a metamorphic rock

The metamorphic rocks have been changed by heat, pressure and chemical processes, usually while they are buried deep beneath the earth’s surface. The exposure to these extreme conditions has altered the mineralogy, texture and chemical composition of the rocks.

There are two basic types of metamorphic rocks.

The metamorphic rocks Lamellari or Browse

as shale and slate have a layered aspect which is produced by exposure to heat and direct pressure.

Metamorphic rocks

do not flap like marble, quartzite and novaculite have a layered look or bandaged.

How is the marble?

Marble is composed mainly by the mineral calcite (CaCO  3  ) and usually contains other minerals, such as clay minerals, micas, quartz, pyrite, iron and graphite oxides, when these minerals are subjected to heat and pressure then solidify to form a rock that is a mass of interlocking crystals of calcite, during this phase, also called the metamorphism of calcite crystals in the rock are very small.

The recrystallization is what marks the separation between limestone and marble.

The properties of marble and its uses

Very few rocks have many uses of marble. It is used for its beauty in architecture and sculpture. It is used for its chemical properties in the pharmaceutical and agricultural sectors. It is used for its optical properties in cosmetics, paints and paper. It is used because it is an abundant product, low cost gravel prepared for construction projects. Marble has many unique properties that make it a precious stone in many different industries.
